Jeannie Hutchison                              SA1980.03.10

Here Jeannie sings a couple of verses of the hymn by Isaac Watts (1674-1748) known as Watts’ Cradle Song of which the first verse begins “Hush my babe, lie still and slumber”.
Jeannie’s tune is beautiful with a very old feel to it which we have been unable to trace in print.

Soft and easy is thy cradle; Hard and coarse thy Saviour lay,
When his birthplace was a stable, And his softest bed was hay.

How much better thou’rt attended Than the Son of Man could be,
[Lilts a little  ..] and became a child like thee.

Soft and easy is thy cradle; Hard and coarse thy Saviour lay,
When his birthplace was a stable, And his softest bed was hay.

 “You see, Yon’s just… er… I think that’s…  from a hymnbook.”
