Robbie Stewart001Robbie Stewart  (b 1911, d 1991)  was almost blind at birth but nevertheless managed to build up a successful grocery business in the island.  He enjoyed music and often sang at local concerts and was also interested in collecting folkore, for which purpose he bought one of the earliest reliable portable tape recorders, an Uher.  The machine still survives but not, unfortunately, his recordings.  We wish too that we had recorded more of his singing than just the one song:-
The little shirt my mother made for me.

Thanks go to Rose Williamson and Robbie’s niece Barbara Jamieson for much of this biographical note.
