DN-at-school2-300x272Nettie was born and raised in Whalsay, only leaving it to study in Edinburgh for a degree and teaching diploma.  Thereafter she returned to teach in Whalsay for some 28 years for she found it a good place to live and work.

She has long enjoyed contributing to local entertainments  by scripting sketches on local and topical themes and making up dialect songs.  For some of the the latter she teamed up  with Joey Anderson and sometimes  they dressed up as crofting women for their performances, singing to a guitar accompaniment provided by Nettie’s husband Davie.  The photo shows them both when they were revisiting the school at which they both worked.
