Hutchison \u00a0(Gibbie a&#8217; Creads) was best known as a really fine\u00a0 fiddle player; but\u00a0here at a ceilidh in the Old Manse (the home of his friend Andrew Poleson) he felt like singing. \u00a0Here he is\u00a0joined by Grace Anderson in a couple of verses of the song known elsewhere as <em>The Sailor\u2019s Alphabet<\/em>.\u00a0 This recording was made in late in the night and Gibbie\u2019s memory failed him when he reached letter \u2018I\u2018 and in any case those present felt like dancing which they did \u2013 to the expert strong playing of their host Andrew Poleson \u2013 with his\u00a0fiddle of course. \u00a0We&#8217;ve added the verses they did not sing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Roud index no. 21100.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>A for the Anchor that hangs in our bow<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And B for the bowsprit\u00a0 &#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">and the jibs all lie low.<\/span> \u00a0 [??]<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Oh C for the capstan so stately and strong \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And D for the davits our boats do hang in.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0So merry, so merry, so merry are we<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0There\u2019s nothing so brave as a sailor at sea<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Hey derry, hey derry, hey derry down<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0 \u00a0
