A few verses were published in a broadsheet priced one penny by\u00a0 William Shepherd at <i>The Poet\u2019s Box, <\/i>182 The Overgate, Dundee (see the <a href=\"http:\/\/digital.nls.uk\/broadsides\/broadside.cfm\/id\/16435\/criteria\/%22Gum%20Tree%20Canoe%22\">National Library<\/a> of Scotland\u2019s site for this.\u00a0 Roud Index no. 759.<br \/>\nRobbie got this from his uncle Peter who had learned it while somewhere in American waters.
