This song seems to have been\u00a0better known in Canada, especially in Newfoundland, judging by the numerous versions collected by Edith Fowke and Helen Creighton, two pioneer Canadian folksong collectors. (Roud no.2280).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>O Peggy Gordon, you are my darling,<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Come sit ye down upon my knee;<br \/>\n<\/em><em>And tell tae me the very reason<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Why I am slighted so by thee.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>I am\u00a0love, I cannot\u00a0deny it;<br \/>\n<\/em><em>My heart lies troubled\u00a0in my breast.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>It&#8217;s not for me\u00a0to let the world know it;<br \/>\n<\/em><em>A troubled heart\u00a0can find no rest.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>I put my head tae\u00a0a cask o&#8217;
